Big Lots plans to reopen 54 stores in 12 states in May, marking a significant return for the discount retailer as its new owners bring it back to life. The new owner is still reopening the more than 200 Big Lots stores that were closed last year. In May, 54 more facilities from 12 states will join the nine that reopened earlier in April. Furthermore, Americans should be informed that all locations bearing the unmistakable orange-and-black sign will hold a spectacular opening party this fall, with the remaining sites coming in waves.

Variety Wholesalers, a retail business located in North Carolina, purchased 219 Big Lots shops and two distribution centers in a deal that was completed following the sale of the brand to Gordon Brothers Retail Partners. As part of the relaunch, Variety is promising more selection, better prices, and a comprehensive clothing department—something Big Lots had never really promoted previously. According to CEO Lisa Seigies, customers can expect more than the traditional Big Lots experience. The strategy includes new categories, including family apparel and electronics, as well as renovated storefronts and closeout sales, though she acknowledged that the initial months may be challenging.
