We have all feared the rapid advances of artificial intelligence. All sectors have already been affected by the automation of tasks that previously fell on the human factor, that now not just only developed by a machine, but are made faster and better. According to CEO Daria Amodei, the future of work could be hanging by a thread and mass layoffs are just around the corner.
Introduction of AI into the world of work
The presence of artificial intelligence in our lives can not be considered a novel event, although it seems. GPS, voice aids for navigators and mobile phones are some of their uses in everyday life, but large companies have long benefited from this technology. It has mainly been used to analyze data, predict patterns, optimize operations, although its use has now expanded.
Using AI
Today, the scope of AI capabilities is incalculable. Sectors where we never thought that technology and artificial intelligence could arrive, have been able to take advantage of these advances. Medical diagnoses, crop monitoring or natural disaster prediction are some of them. On the other hand, in our daily life, we can take advantage of its advantages through virtual assistants in telephones and homes, autonomous vehicles, systems of personalized recommendation in shopping platforms, music or audiovisual content. Supports such as GPT Chat, Gemini or Copilot are also tools that provide us with help in the educational and professional field.
Rapid progress
Throughout history, society has been able to adapt to technological changes in time, to a greater or lesser extent. The incorporation of mobile phones that were evolving to the current smartphones, move from touch pad functions, learn the operation of new smart TVs, hybrid cars are examples of some devices to which society has adapted without difficulty. Dario Amodei, Anthropic CEO, stated in an interview to the CNN that AI is “starting to get better than humans at almost all intellectual tasks”, which is a problem arising from the speed at which technology advances.
Why is it becoming a problem?
As the Amodei CEO explains, “AI is starting to get better than humans at almost all intellectual tasks, and we’re going to collectively, as a society, grapple with it”. Although there are many advantages that the Ia has brought to our lives the reality is that the change has been and it is being too fast and society is not being able to adapt that fast.
Is AI a threat to humans?
Many of the tasks and jobs performed by humans for years are being replaced by machines that are able to increase the pace and optimize production, reducing costs, something with which the human factor cannot compete. World Economic Forum survey, 1% of employers plan to downsize their workforce because of AI automation by 2030. What would this mean? thousands of jobs will be replaced by machines, leading to unemployment and mass redundancies. Vocational training will cease to have value, so much so that a machine can always reduce processing time, which means significant savings for companies.
Is there any solution?
According to CEO Amodei, it may be too late to stop this advance. More and more jobs are being replaced by AI, from production to creative, such as illustration, art, music and even education. However, the CEO explains that since we know the damage and disadvantages it can cause us, our mission is to fight against this technological trend, putting the quality of the product made by a human first. In addition, we will always have an advantage from a moral, emotional and conflict resolution point of view that, although the AI is learning to deal with, it is more volatile and changing aspects, without easy patterns to analyze and above all imitate.
What companies are laying off for this reason?
