Farewell to the iconic Italian engine - marks the end of an era in the automotive industry - now left as relics

Italy has seen the growth of companies that have become automotive history, in terms of quality, design, engine and speed. The automotive industry has always been conditioned by the decisions of major brands such as Ferrari, one of the undisputed leaders. However, new trends and global needs have forced the car industry to shift its production towards renewable energies and leave behind internal combustion engines. Is this a farewell to an iconic engine? Probably.

What will happen to internal combustion engines?

It is undeniable the quantity of quality cars with which the Italian manufacturers have given us over the years. A country that has made history in the world’s motor vehicle production. However, new CO2 emission limitations and the new course towards electrification of vehicles have forced large companies to rethink their strategies. From the point of view of speed, we can say that it is a shame that these engines will eventually disappear, but from an ecological point of view, it is good news. Who knows if Ferrari managed to revolutionize electric motors too?

Engines of the future

As we know, the entire car industry has turned to electric power to power its vehicles. Their production has been oriented towards hybrid or 100% electric cars. Major brands such as Hyundai, Mercedes and BMW have already launched electric alternatives on the market, although it still offers hybrids and internal combustion engines (though fewer and fewer). No one ever imagined how far the advancement of automotive technology would go. The fact that all companies have hopped on the bandwagon of the motor transition indicates that they are committed to the climate future (although they have not been given a choice either). Within 10 years we will see internal combustion engines virtually disappear from the market.

Goodbye to traditional motors

Italy has already started up its new factory exclusively for the manufacture of electric motors. This means a further step towards the disappearance of the models we know today. This transformation is hard for motor lovers. It will be necessary to say goodbye to designs and engines that have revolutionized the market and competitions. This is the case of Bugatti, which was founded by the Italian Ettore Bugatti more than 100 years ago, has already announced that its irreplaceable W16 engine will soon become a memory.

Models such as the Veyron, Chiron or the Mistral worked with this iconic engine that will no longer be produced. Instead, they will be oriented towards a V16 engine that works with three electric motors. The model carrying this new motor will be the Tourbillon. Mate Rica, the new CEO of Bugatti, who acquired it after being abandoned by Volkswagen, will lead this new line of Italian design and production, which will try to maintain all its values in this new challenge. Volkswagen has already launched its plans to position itself on the market with new electric models.

Farewell W16!

Sadly, we will no longer see a W16 engine running through the streets. Although there are many hopes and expectations placed in the Bugatti brand for its electrical designs, the reality is that you can never imitate that power and speed with electricity alone. Two V8 joined together to give the best design, efficiency and show. From now on you will only live in our memories and museums.

For motor lovers, the best advice to hold on to right now is the background of this change. The aim is to produce zero emission vehicles that are environmentally friendly and help alleviate the current situation. Besides, if someone likes a challenge is Bugatti, so we just have to wait and be surprised by their new electrical designs!
