Neither Green Card nor EB-5 - Trump proposes $1,000 express visa for tourists and business people who want to skip the line

After the definitive break up of which seemed to be the relationship of the year, Elon Musk and Donald Trump have decided to take separate ways. However, the State Department has not ceased to function. The immigration policy of the Trump administration is becoming increasingly tough, and it intends to present a new Immigration Policy in the United States to the US Supreme Court.

Currently, there are different entry permits to the country such as Visa B1/B2 (corresponding to B1 business visa or tourist visa, and B2 family visits or medical reasons). On the other hand, the EB-5 Visa corresponds to that which must be applied for by immigrants who want to enter the country, and finally the Green Card (Green Card), which allows permanent residence in the United States of those people who are not Americans.

With the intention of regulating immigration in the United States – or rather dividing it according to purchasing level-, Trump has proposed the creation of the Gold Card. The US immigration system is intended to be regulated through an entry system that distinguishes between those who come for tourism in the United States, or who want to be part of foreign citizenship and are willing to pay $5 million dollars for your its American residence, and those who have to keep waiting in the long lines to be able to have a reunion at the consulate. It seems that immigration is no longer a problem for Trump if the person is willing to pay $5 million to enter the country.

Permits in the United States

The current immigration policy in the United States includes permits for those who need to visit the country or want to reside permanently. The B1/B2 visa, corresponds to the necessary visa if you want to enter the country for business or tourism (B1), or for family visit or medical care (B2). There is also the EB-5, which is owned by immigrants residing in the country and through which they commit to participate in the production and economic growth of the country.

New Trump´s permits

The queue to meet with the consulate and apply for one of these visas is very long, which generates some collapse. To decongest this situation, Trump has suggested the creation of two different visas:

  • Visa Premium.Through this visa, both immigrants and tourists or any other non-immigrant visitor has the option of paying $1,000 to speed up their meeting with the consulate, skipping the endless waiting list.
  • Visa Gold. Also called “Trump Visa”, is the latest proposal of the republican President, through which anyone who wants to reside in the US or wants to have the American residency, can do so for the modest amount of $5 million (and enter the country with a red carpet).

Visa Premium beneficiaries

These measures are, of course, aimed at those with a high level of income, making an economic distinction between immigrants. The following profiles will be able to benefit from this new Visa Premium:

  • Entrepreneurs with travel emergencies.
  • Tourists with high purchasing power.
  • Applicants facing extended waiting times.
  • People with interviews on critical dates.

Although these new visas may benefit a small percentage of the population, these measures have not been well received by US citizens. It seems that Trump’s rejection of immigration, his sense of protecting the country from foreigners, vanish when these people (come from whatever country they come and whatever the reason for their visit or stay), have a higher purchasing level than is necessary to cope with these figures. What do you think? Do yo agree with this new policy or do you see the lack of sense in it?
