With the aim of strengthening cybersecurity, Samsung has released a statement in which it has imposed duties of computer security to its users. In order to protect the data stored on mobile devices of Samsung users, the company has recommended them to update their smartphone software to a newer version of Android (One UI 6 or higher), and activate all the permissions and security filters that the operating system has. As mobile technology has advanced, so have cyberattack and theft techniques. Today you could count on the fingers of the hand people who do not use a smartphone in their daily life. Messaging, calls, use of social networks, photos, audiovisual platforms, banking, email apps, etc. We are not aware of the amount of personal data that we store on our mobile phones, and are at the disposal of those who attack us or steal our phone.

It is no coincidence that the increase in thefts has been recorded in Europe and America. They are the result of an improvement in the technology of theft of personal information. That is why the company Samsung has taken a step forward and has issued a statement advising its users to carry out a series of security measures on their devices. 

Samsung gets going

Together with the UK Home Office, the company lists a list of tips to prevent these events and that all Samsung users should follow. Not only do they guide you to protect your phone on a day-to-day basis, but in case it has already been stolen, so that it is totally impossible for thieves to decipher. Whatever model you have, the steps to follow are exactly the same. These features are already available for models like the S23 or S24, but in a few months they will be available for the whole range of devices. See which are the most prominent features that Samsung recommends to activate all its users:

  • AutoBlocker. Blocks the download of any item from an unauthorized source. How do you activate it? Easy, Settings>Security and Privacy> Select the AutoBlocker option.
  • Required biometric authentication. It is requested to edit settings when in a suspicious location.
  • One hour delay for significant changes. Allows the user to tell me that the device has been stolen and they are trying to access it.
  • Lock for theft detection. The most popular, because through the sensors of the phone it is detected if there has been any sudden movement. If so, the screen is locked without access unless it is through fingerprint, pin or facial recognition.
  • Full encryption and remote lock. Backups are end-to-end encrypted, with the user being the only person who can access them. You will be able to activate the remote lock by entering your number and making a quick check.

Compatibility

To be able to use all these new security features, the user will need to upgrade their Android version to OneUI 6 or higher. If your device is inferior to the S23 or S24 models, don’t worry, in a few months more models will be available!
