Confirmed by SSA - there will be double SSI payments in August and thousands of beneficiaries will receive extra income in their account - see if you are on the list

There will be a double SSI payment in August. Yes and no, it can be confusing. It’s a double payment that will be effective in August 2025. In addition to the Social Security benefit paid to a segment of the population, the Social Security Administration (SSA) also pays another type of benefit known as Supplemental Security Income. This SSI is paid to approximately 7.1 million people. There will indeed be two incomes in August, but in no case is it an extra income or a state supplement.

Beneficiaries will receive two payments in August

We’re starting from the fact that receiving two SSI payments in the same month isn’t common, hence the alarm. In any case, the second payment isn’t a bonus or a check. It’s all a matter of timing. According to the SSA’s payment schedule for this year, two SSI payments will indeed be issued in August. The first payment will be issued on August 1st, corresponding to the SSI benefit for that month. A second SSI payment will be issued on August 29th. This time, as we mentioned before, it’s not an extra payment, but rather the SSI benefit scheduled for September.

Who qualifies for SSI benefits?

Well, according to the SSA website: little or no income, little or no resources, a disability, blindness, or are age 65 or older. Additionally, in certain cases, children may also be considered eligible for SSI benefits. The SSA recommends that beneficiaries wait up to three business days to file claims, complaints, or suggestions with Social Security if they do not receive their income on the first day.

Is not about an extra income

It’s explained very simply. If the first day of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, the SSA doesn’t delay the payment but advances it. In this case, it falls in the previous month, that is, August. Thus, the beneficiary can access their September SSI benefit at the beginning of the same month (or at the end of the previous month, depending on how you look at it), instead of waiting until the next business day, which would be the first week of September.

The situation will happen again this year

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened this year. The so-called double payment also occurred earlier this year, between February and May. In addition, the November SSI payment will be issued on October 31, and the January 2026 payment will be issued on December 31.

It’s worth remembering that adults earning more than $2,019 per month are not eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI). To qualify as a beneficiary, common resources must also be less than $2,000 for individuals filing individually, and $3,000 for couples filing jointly. For individuals under 64 years of age with a disability, the SSA requires that, if you have a disability, you must also prove that your income was less than $1,550 per month at your job during the month you apply for assistance. Individuals 65 and older do not need to have a disability to receive SSI.

In any case, it is important to urge calm among all citizens who benefit from these payments. Although it may appear that some months are omitted, payments are actually stipulated for 12 payments corresponding to all months of the year. SSI beneficiaries do not need to take any action to receive these payments, beyond meeting the requirements stipulated above, which can be consulted on the SSA website.
