Calmness, logic, and intelligence—that’s what the color blue reflects, according to a psychological study. Behavioral experts associate blue as the color most representative of intelligence. Color preferences say a lot about a person’s IQ, according to experts, and it’s all part of subconscious choice. We aren’t born predetermined; we perceive colors and sensations and stick with the ones we feel most comfortable with.

The goal is to convey trust and security

In this case, blue is associated with calm, focus, and reliability. It’s the color of the sky, the color of the sea, the color of tranquility. Even the water we drink is associated with this color. Furthermore, it’s no coincidence that some of the world’s leading companies use the color blue in their logos. The goal is to convey trust and security. For example, Meta, Intel, BMW, iCloud… And it’s well known that no company in this category makes decisions lightly, not even the color of their logos.

The color red can be perceived as aggressive, strong

The study we’re discussing shows that, for example, wearing a blue suit or simply adding a blue accessory to an important meeting or interview will give the impression of being calm, logical, and in control of the situation. It’s a matter of perception; the human mind plays with all the factors surrounding it. For example, the color red can be perceived as aggressive, strong, and can carry some innate negative connotation. Meanwhile, the color green tends to evoke feelings of well-being, hope, nature, and ecology. These are difficult topics to explain, but the fact is that human beings remain a mystery in many ways for scientists.

Another color that can also transmit similar vibrations to blue is white. The color white is a symbol of clarity, precision, and order. Who wears white? We usually associate it with doctors, for example. It’s a color (or a non-color) that signifies neatness, cleanliness, elegance, and even summer. In the warmer seasons, wearing light colors also evokes serenity; in fact, the Ibizan style focuses on white clothing.

Why is it important to choose one color or another?

According to studies, the color we choose, or the color we decide is our favorite, can influence the intelligence and confidence others perceive us to have. Even if we don’t want to realize it, if someone always wears purple, for example, that would be a very representative trait of that person’s personality. We might even wonder why, since the pandemic, when we’re using our home offices much more, people tend to use white backgrounds in their workspaces. All this is because it gives a personal image of sobriety, neatness, and tends to reflect intelligence and professionalism. And we know that whenever something has to do with work, choosing black and white is a safe bet.

The connotations vary and can be endless

Other colors, like gray, can seem dreary and dull, while yellow, for example, can give the impression of being unprofessional if you’re going to a job interview. Brown tends to suggest that the person is reserved and very traditional; in some ways, it’s a color we see in churches, although it’s also the color of wood and earth. The connotations, as we can see, vary and can be endless. On the other hand, pastel shades are generally reserved for more spontaneous or informal occasions like ceremonies, baptisms, or weddings.

Ultimately, our favorite color may not be the color we want to wear every day, but it’s the color we feel best represents us and best suits our personality.
