Farewell to Queer Eye - Netflix confirms the iconic show's finale after 10 seasons and one last unforgettable transformation in Washington DC

One of America’s most iconic series is filming its final season. Queer Eye has established itself as one of the greatest reality series on Netflix and, consequently, on television as it is understood today. The series about the so-called “Fabulous Five” has announced via X that this tenth season will be its last.

Washington D.C, will host the final season

With an image on X in front of the Lincoln Memorial and the caption: “10 seasons. Fab Five. One last spin. The final season of Queer Eye is officially in production,” Netflix closes out an era for viewers. Iconic locations across the country have served as showcases for Queer Eye. The seasons have focused on different locations that have taken the protagonists and viewers on a journey across the country. Georgia, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Texas, New Orleans, and Las Vegas have all featured in previous seasons. Now it’s Washington, D.C.’s turn.

“I simply want to say thank you”

Queer Eye lands in DC for one last dance. Tan France, one of the ‘Fabulous Five’, has dedicated some heartfelt words via Instagram, where he has written: “First day of the final season of Queer Eye. It’s been a long, beautiful journey we’ve been on, and I truly appreciate all of the love and support for our little show, that changed my life in ways I never thought possible. As we begin our farewell season here in D.C. I simply want to say thank you, Thank you.”

The Fab Five say goodbye

The series stars relationship expert Karamo Brown, fashion expert Tan France, food and wine expert Antoni Porowski, and hair and makeup expert Jonathan Van Ness. Interior design expert Bobby Berk starred for eight seasons and was replaced in seasons 9 and 10 by Jeremiah Brent.

The show has garnered significant acclaim and has even been nominated for Emmy Awards, currently holding 37 nominations. Queer Eye has won the award for best structured reality program six consecutive times between 2018 and 2023. It lost last year to Shark Tank. Additionally, Queer Eye has won multiple Critics’ Choice Real TV Awards and received a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Reality Program, Netflix said in a press release.

“It’s absolutely gay and glorious”

In a review by Tom Rasmussen for The Independent, the critic said: “It’s a show that reminds us, first, of the power of difference and, second, of the power of queerness. And, in a world where both have become huge flashpoints of conflict, Queer Eye is urgency and acceptance disguised as frivolity and entertainment; and it’s absolutely gay and glorious.”

Streaming giant Netflix has not yet announced the reason for its decision to discontinue the series. The ninth season started despite declining viewership and not being among the top ten shows worldwide since its sixth season.
