It's official - TSA eliminates the second security checkpoint for flights with stopovers in the U.S. and this is how it benefits you

Nowadays, simplifying tasks seems to have become essential. In every sense, from cleaning the house to taking a taxi, and of course, catching a flight. Now, One Stop Security has arrived in the United States, allowing some passengers to avoid TSA and customs procedures when connecting from international flights. It’s already operating at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

From the federal agency’s perspective, this measure does not compromise security

American Airlines has become the first U.S. airline to offer passengers arriving from London the option to skip the traditional baggage claim process and recheck their baggage and clear customs before boarding a domestic connecting flight. From the federal agency’s perspective, this measure does not compromise security, as it ensures that rigorous security assessments will be conducted at participating foreign airports, as well as threat monitoring and compliance controls.

David Seymour, chief operating officer of American Airlines, said the move represents “one of the most cutting-edge improvements we can bring to international travel, and more importantly, to our customers, by offering a level of convenience and time savings never before available to customers connecting on international flights.”

Passengers can clear customs directly at the arrival gate, while their baggage is automatically transferred

With the implementation of One Stop Security, passengers can clear customs directly at the arrival gate, while their baggage is automatically transferred to their final destination, eliminating the need for baggage handling between flights. This program, already known as One Stop Security, as previously explained, is jointly managed by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the TSA.

The main objective is to streamline procedures. Otherwise, passengers would have to wait in long lines, which can be time-consuming, stressful, and sometimes result in missing a connecting flight. Therefore, these types of measures aim to make airports easier for passengers.

This option is available in Canada, the Caribbean, the United Arab Emirates, and Ireland

According to information provided by American Airlines, collaboration between the two federal agencies has been key to designing a process that maintains safety standards while streamlining passenger flow. The company hopes the experience gained at DFW will serve as a model for its future expansion to other airports across the country.

There is currently an option for those seeking to further streamline the entry process to the United States. Passengers who wish to do so can fly from international airports with pre-clearance. This option is available in several countries, including Canada, the Caribbean, the United Arab Emirates, and Ireland, including Dublin Airport. In these cases, passengers complete U.S. customs procedures before boarding and, upon arrival, disembark as if on a domestic flight.

The TSA is attempting to implement another law that would allow liquids to be carried in carry-on

This measure follows the recent approval of the non-mandatory removal of shoes on flights within U.S. airports. As we have reported, this measure was approved this year; according to official sources, it does not jeopardize passenger safety and speeds up passage through security. In addition, it has also been learned that the TSA is attempting to implement another law that would allow liquids to be carried in carry-on luggage. This last one is still being developed.

“TSA is constantly looking for innovative private sector solutions to enhance security and improve the passenger experience at TSA checkpoints,” said TSA Acting Administrator Ha Nguyen McNeill. “Homeland Security Secretary Noem recently announced TSA’s elimination of the mandate for passengers to remove their shoes. This effort will continue to drive a golden age of travel for future innovations by allowing private sector organizations to submit ideas or solutions that will help make airport screening faster, more secure, and easier on the traveling public,” they say in an official statement.
