In the United States, Walmart is implementing several changes that will affect California. Following the closure of Walmart Neighborhood Market on Santa Rita Road in Pleasanton, Anne Hatfield confirmed the closure but said that customers will still be able to shop at stores in San Ramon and Livermore. Among the stores that will close, one is located at Metro 580, where Kohl’s and Party City have also closed stores. Read on to learn more.
Walmart closes its Neighborhood Market store in Pleasanton, California
Despite this closure, the company pointed out that there are other branches just a few miles away, according to The Sun. “It’s important to note that we have three Walmart stores within eight miles (13 kilometers) of this location; the closest store is just one mile (1.6 km) away.”
Anne Hatfield, the company’s spokesperson, said, “We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our Neighborhood Market in Pleasanton. We look forward to continuing to serve them at our other Pleasanton store or at other nearby locations, at walmart.com, and through home or business delivery.”
The decision responds to changes in user shopping habits and a strategy to optimize its branches. “The way customers want to be served is constantly changing, and we are evolving to meet their needs and serve them how, when, and where they want,” Hatfield said. She also explained the reasons for the closure: “We consider many factors, including the current mix of stores, customer needs, financial performance, and the proximity of other nearby locations.”
The spokesperson said that about 90 employees work at the Santa Rita store. The company said it hopes they will be able to continue at Walmart and that they will have the option of transferring to another store. “Right now, our focus is on supporting them… and we will work with each associate to identify new employment opportunities for them,” Hatfield said.
The store’s pharmacy will also end operations on October 2. Hatfield said staff will assist customers in transferring their prescriptions to another nearby Walmart location. “We remain very committed to California. Statewide, we are in the process of or have completed 57 remodels this year,” she added.

Although the retailer is closing one of its stores in the area, the spokesperson highlighted the proximity of the Walmart store at 4501 Rosewood Drive, located inside the Metro 580 shopping center, which also saw the closure of two retail chains in the last year: Kohl’s and Party City, according to the Pleasanton Weekly.
The other closest locations are the recently renovated Neighborhood Market on Alcosta Boulevard in San Ramon and on Las Positas Road in Livermore. “Over the past five years, Walmart has invested more than $800 million to improve stores throughout California,” Hatfield said.
“We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our Pleasanton Neighborhood Market,” she said. “We look forward to continuing to serve them at our other Pleasanton store or other nearby locations, on walmart.com and through delivery to their home or business.”
