The world of aviation is attracting increasing interest, either because it’s a common means of transportation for most people today or because the technology behind it continues to surprise many. In any case, despite being the safest means of transportation in the world, there are some areas where flying is not recommended, namely: Area 51, the Himalayas, and the Bermuda Triangle. Probably places that you can recognize as not recommended for vacation or without a guide. Disappearances, strange phenomena, geographical accidents, experiments, UFOs… are some of the ‘news’ that come from these areas.
Area 51 is one of the areas about which the least details are known
Located in the Nevada desert, Area 51 is known as an extremely secret military base guarded by the United States Air Force. The site, located more than 100 km from Las Vegas, is also known as Goom Lake and, according to official sources, is a testing and training range. The exact reasons for this base’s existence and what type of research or testing is conducted there are unknown.
There is no official information, and all that is known is conjecture
It wasn’t until 2013 that the base’s existence was confirmed, but that doesn’t mean the information coming out of it is highly secret and classified by the United States. For this reason, Area 51 has been the focus of theories and stories related to UFOs or experiments of dubious moral approval, such as Project Abigail. As far as we know, the project was based on an experiment conducted by scientist Albert Western, in which he subjected his daughter Abigail to radiation and other experiments with the aim of seeing how the human body would react to such exposure. In any case, there is no official information, and all that is known is conjecture.
What is clear is that Area 51 has faced legal issues related to the levels of pollution emitted by the military base. These issues are also relatively unknown, as it is not known exactly what type of experiments they conduct. However, the medical histories of some former employees have led their families to sue the state for possible negligence in the use of chemicals that have proven fatal to the victims.
Extreme Conditions in the Himalayas
The Tibetan Plateau is another area where airplanes are prohibited. This is always a recommendation, as the extreme conditions, ecosystem, and altitude of the mountains in this area, specifically in China, make flying over there highly risky. The best option is to avoid this area and maintain passenger safety.
The famous Bermuda Triangle
The space between Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and Miami is known as the Bermuda Triangle. Disappearances and “mysteries” occurring in this geographical region of the planet are well-known in urban legends. This isn’t false; many ships have disappeared in this part of the Atlantic, and aircraft have also been lost. All of this, combined with stories told since the beginning of time, has fueled the myth of the Bermuda Triangle.
Scientists and researchers also emphasize that this is an area that has always been heavily traveled, so the more traffic there is, the greater the likelihood of something unexpected happening. What is certain is that this area’s climate leads to strong winds, storms, and typhoons that cause Gulf Stream currents that ultimately affect vessels and aircraft. For this reason, crossings through this part of the continent are avoided.
