Goodbye to the usual delivery guys - Amazon launches humanoid robots to deliver packages to your home

Can you imagine not seeing your Amazon delivery man ever again? This is one of the theories that are considered in the world of technology applied to logistics automation. In the United States, and in other countries, the number of online purchases is increasing. This is why the option of eliminating the dealer figure and replacing it with humanoid robots could be considered. Amazon has not made any kind of statement about it. The company would still be developing its software, so they do not consider this reality in the short or medium term.

Amazon

Is there anyone on this planet who has not heard of Amazon? This is an American e-commerce corporation where you can find absolutely any product. Electronics, fashion, groceries, gardening… Whatever your need, Amazon will have the product you need. With a global workforce of approximately 2 million people, it delivers to both home and collection points. In addition, it has expanded its launching frontiers to the audiovisual world through the creation of the Prime Video platform, where through a monthly subscription of $14.99, you will be able to access a large catalog of series, films, documentaries and more!

Deliveries on Amazon

Although it is one of the companies with the greatest impact worldwide and with more orders delivered, there are also many people who have complained about the quality of this service. Delivery hours not compatible with customer availability, packages arriving in bad condition or being released by the deliverers, others open and various. Although it is not the daily deliveries, the number of complaints and claims for this type of incident is quite high. But what if I told you that there is a chance that you will never see an Amazon human delivery man again?

Amazon and technology

That’s right. Jeff Bezos, the creator and owner of Amazon, is characterized by having always bet on improving the company’s functionalities through the use of new technologies. Could be seen with the VAPR smart parcel identification system inside their Rivian vans. What could be the new breakthrough of Bezos? The implementation of robotics. Millions of euros are invested every year by Amazon in this field, with which they have been able to develop their well-known robotic arm with a sense of touch, Vulcan.

“Humanoid park”

According to Reuter, The Information has advanced that the company has focused on developing intelligence software for humanoid robots. Once developed, this software is intended to be introduced into humanoid robots that would be trained in a kind of “humanoid park” they have set up in one of their offices in San Francisco, where they are supposed to train them in an environment as close to reality as possible. Is it just me or this sounds a little creepy? It is not just any park, but a space where real situations are recreated and robots are taught how to proceed. Through obstacles, robots are expected to be able to adapt to increasingly complex logistical tasks.

Are there jobs at risk?

To date, Amazon has not made any kind of statement about this future possibility of replacing humans with robots. The software in question is still under development and the robots used are only robotic arms. Humanoid robots are not even manufactured by them. It would not be crazy to think that this can become a reality in the future, but the reality is that at the moment no software or hardware has been developed prepared to perform this task as a human does.
And you, what do you think? Would you like to receive the packages by a robot, or would you miss contact and conversation with a human?
