Goodbye Toyota, Hyundai, Ford – the NHTSA announces one of the biggest vehicle recall campaigns ever – more than 1.4 million vehicles withdrawn from the market

April 15, 2025

This week comes with important news for all Ford, Hyundai, Honda, Toyota, and other car makers that will need to recall some of their models. Over 380,000 Toyota Tacoma trucks and over 300,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs were among the several recalls that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced last week due to elevated crash risks. Owners can look up new recalls on the NHTSA database or in USA TODAY’s automotive recall database if their vehicle isn’t on the list below. Likewise, you may look for recalls on the NHTSA website by entering your vehicle identification number, or VIN.

Ford, Hyundai, Honda, and Toyota have announced recalls all over the US

Due to the possibility that the instrument panel cluster may not adequately show warning lights or gauges, Ford is recalling 62,813 of its 2022–2023 Maverick Hybrid pickups.  According to the NHTSA, an instrument panel that lacks warning lights or the speedometer—two vital pieces of safety information—can make a collision more likely. Free software updates for the instrument panel cluster will be provided by Ford dealers.  Letters informing owners are anticipated to be mailed on March 18, 2024. Owners can call 1-866-436-7332 to speak with Ford customer support.  For this recall, Ford’s number is 24C01.

Furthermore, Ford will also be recalling the EcoSport rear seat covers due to an airbag issue. Because the 207 Ford EcoSport Rear Seat Covers can interfere with the proper deployment of the air bag, Ford is recalling them. The business informed the NHTSA that the rear seat covers might hinder the seat airbag’s effective deployment, which might lead to an improper or delayed airbag deployment during a collision and raise the risk of injuries to back seat occupants. Lastly, Ford will recall 7,527 of its 2023–2024 Bronco SUVs because the rear quarter glass panels might have been attached to the vehicle hard top incorrectly, causing them to separate and posing a driving danger and raising the possibility of an accident.

On the other hand, according to the NHTSA, Hyundai is recalling 186,588 of its Elantra small cars from 2015–2016 because the trunk latch may break, making it impossible to open the trunk from the inside and potentially trapping a person within, increasing their risk of harm. Free replacement of the trunk latch base sub-assembly will be provided by dealers. Letters of notification to owners should be mailed on April 15, 2024. Hyundai customer care can be reached at 1-855-371-9460 by owners.

Among the carmakers recalling its models is Toyota, as the company will need to recall 381,199 Tacoma pickup trucks from 2022–2023 because debris might cause the axle shaft sub-assembly to separate from the axle housing, resulting in incorrectly fastened fasteners. According to the company’s NHTSA report, that can impact braking performance and vehicle stability, raising the chance of an accident. Additionally, A total of 280,663 Toyota Tundra, Tundra Hybrid, Lexus LX600, and 2023–2024 Sequoia Hybrid vehicles are being recalled by Toyota due to the possibility of sudden vehicle movement when the vehicle is in neutral and the brakes are not engaged.

Some engine power may continue to pass to the wheels if the brake clutch discs do not instantly disengage from the plates due to a design flaw in one particular brake clutch disc. The manufacturer informed the NHTSA that this could lead to the car moving slowly ahead and raising the chance of an accident. Dealers will provide a free software upgrade for the car. Letters informing owners are anticipated to be mailed on April 7, 2024. Among the recalled vehicles are the 2022-2024 Lexus LX, 2023-2024 Toyota Sequoia Hybrid, 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra, and 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid.Â
