Goodbye to McDonald's as you know it - Krispy Kreme slows expansion in its restaurants - thousands of disappointed customers

If you live on planet Earth, you must know McDonald´s. If you have not tried it, then you have seen it or  heard about it, for sure. You have not escaped the smile of Ronald McDonald.

Of course we know about their burgers, chips, soft drinks and breakfasts, but, are you a doughnut lover? If the answer is yes, I´m afraid McDonald´s has bad news for you: its working relationship with Krispy Kreme has frozen and, from now on, this product will not be available in any restaurant from the second quarter.

But relax, there are still 2,400 McDonald´s locations where you can still enjoy this product to end of stocks.

McDonald´s: the origin

The history of the McDonalds company dates back to 15 April 1955, in Chicago, Illinois.
Its founder, Ray Kroc, bought the idea from the McDonald brothers and expanded the franchise throughout the United States.

By introducing tables in the establishment to incorporate takeaway, without having to get out of the car, the brand grew exponentially, becoming world-famous.

What would you like to have?

With almost 33,000 restaurants spread over 119 countries on the 5 continents, burgers, chips, a wide variety of soft drinks, desserts, children’s menus and breakfasts make up the extensive range of products offered at McDonald’s. From the Happy Meal to the Big Mac, virtually everyone knows the company’s menu, having even appeared in movies and running advertising campaigns with various famous personalities, such as Kim Kardashian or Travis Scott.

Despite all this offer, not everything McDonald’s offers is good. Without going into discussing if fast food is healthy for our body, one of the failed subjects of the brand is the discontinuity of products.
It seems that the more successful a product is, the sooner it disappears from the menu, leaving consumers without their favorite drink, burger or dessert. Sometimes even without warning.

Is your favorite product being withdrawn?

In 2024, Krispy Kreme and McDonald’s joined forces to launch the Krispy Kreme Donut, which was available at stores in Louisville, Kentucky.
The initial plan included expanding the states where you could enjoy this sweet dessert, reaching the entire North American continent.

What’s happened? McDonald’s revenues went down 3.6% last year against all odds.

Are people starting to become aware of the quality of fast food? Are they choosing other establishments? Are you bored of the lack of continuity in McDonald’s products? Is it because of the negative and harmful effects of certain ingredients and substances in our bodies?
Whatever the reason, this has aroused the concern of collaborating companies, especially Krispy Kreme.
The company has considered it a risky decision to go ahead with the agreement, due to “the macroeconomic softness and the uncertainty around the McDonald’s deployment schedule”, which they stated in its financial report.

Will there be reconciliation after the break-up?

The project had just taken off and it has now been decided to abort the mission.
In its report, Krispy Kreme has stated that it will not continue to supply McDonald’s with its products from the second quarter onwards, and that they will only be able to taste their Krispy Kreme doughnut in stores until stocks run out.

What will the doughnut fans do now?

It´s okay, the end has not yet come. McDonald’s has tried to placate this bad news with the launch of new products such as the Chocolate Chip Frappé, in collaboration with Hershey, although the result is yet to be measured. However, since no one knows what the future holds, we can always rely on McDonald’s classics, such as their McFlurry ice creams, their sweet cupcakes, the salty fries and the ever-desired toy hidden inside the Happy Meal.
