We’ve all found something that we thought was lost in the bottom of a drawer or $20 in the pocket of a jacket that we hadn’t worn for a while, but what happened to this person in Texas if it wasn’t coming. The unexpected find involves a hive inside a forgotten suitcase in a house’s basement. Undoubtedly it is a natural treasure that will remain as a memory more than curious in the world of science. Could we be talking about the most curious find in history?
Forgotten objects
Small used to search through my clothes and the drawers of my house looking for some object to find. But like everything in life, things appear when you stop looking for them, when you least expect it. This was exactly what happened to an individual in Texas, who after going down to the basement looking for a suitcase, took a surprise with what I found inside!
Forgotten bees?
Bees are flying insects that are part of our fauna and biodiversity. They are responsible for pollinating plants, and although it seems crazy, humans could not survive without them and without this important function. In addition, they are the manufacturers of high quality products such as honey, royal jelly, pollen, wax and bee venom. Despite being one of the most important insects and with greater impact on our lives, we must not forget that they bite and attack if they feel threatened. In some cases it may be a simple bite, while in others it can become lethal.
Saving the honeycomb
A fellow in Texas was about to open an old suitcase he had forgotten in his garret when he couldn’t believe what his eyes were seeing. It was a honeycomb! As soon as he opened the suitcase, the bee swarm flew away, so he had to ask for help to solve the situation. He contacted Texas Beeworks, an American company famous for rescuing bees across the country at no cost. His work is highly recognized, accumulating more than 13 million followers on social networks. It is characterized by its altruistic work and only care, welfare and conservation of the bees, since they do not sell their honey in products derived from it.
Erika Thompson, the founder of this company, presented herself in person to address the situation. She couldn’t even believe what she saw and ended up posting a photo on social networks. The bees had to be moved to a hive that met their needs, and it was no easy task. To get the bees out of their hive in the suitcase, she used a little smoke, which worked perfectly. Her concern for the queen bee was considerable, as she was not sure about it making it through successfully. However, everything went with a swing and all the bees, including the queen, were moved to a hive without suffering any kind of damage.
She posted a video on their social networks explaining the case and concluded by stating that “It was another great day saving the bees”. It seems like a simple procedure, but it certainly is not. This is something that has to be done by professionals and not by any of us at home. The aim is to safeguard the well-being and physical integrity of bees, while ensuring that no human is harmed. If not done the right way, this process can end up being a disaster, with a cellar full of bees flying out of control and more than one bite.
