Social Security in the United States is in the midst of its payment season. For many beneficiaries, monthly checks are one of their primary sources of income, allowing them to cover their basic monthly expenses. The SSA pays various types of benefits, and these payments are made on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month, depending on the beneficiary’s date of birth. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is also paid according to the same schedule as regular Social Security benefits.
The SSA publishes its payment schedule for the entire year well in advance
Among the types of benefits provided by the SSA are: the regular Social Security benefit, paid to retirees; Supplemental Security Income (SSI), paid to adults, blind people, and, in some cases, children, who have few or no other resources; and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), paid to people with disabilities. The SSA publishes its payment schedule for the entire year well in advance, making it easier for beneficiaries to plan their budgets.
It’s important to understand the dates and rules for making payments. If, for example, you received your Social Security benefit before May 1997 or receive both Social Security and SSI, your payment will be made on the 3rd and 1st of the month. The other dates are defined as follows: Second Wednesday, July 9: beneficiaries with birth dates between the 1st and 10th of the month; third Wednesday, July 16: beneficiaries with birth dates between the 11th and 20th of the month; fourth Wednesday, July 23: beneficiaries with birth dates between the 21st and 31st of the month.
Social Security beneficiaries have been receiving emails that appear to be official but they are not
The Social Security program has been in operation for nearly a century, serving more than 70 million beneficiaries, including retirees, people with disabilities, and survivors. So many people benefit from this assistance that there have even been cases of fraud by third parties seeking to take advantage of those most in need. Recently, Social Security beneficiaries have been receiving emails that appear to be official. These emails purportedly come from the SSA and “inform” beneficiaries that their Social Security number has been suspended or is experiencing problems. Some affected individuals have described how they received these emails in their inbox. Authorities have already alerted users of this scam.
On the other hand, there is Social Security benefits for retirees and people with disabilities. This amount, for retirees, is calculated based on income received during active employment. 12.4% of wages are allocated to Social Security payroll taxes, 6.2% is paid by the employee, and 6.2% by the employer. It works the same way for people with disabilities. SSDI is also calculated based on the average lifetime earnings of the person before the onset of disability.
In the event of any last-minute changes, the beneficiaries will always be informed
SSDI and Social Security benefit payment dates for August will follow a similar schedule and will therefore be made on the following dates:
Second Wednesday, August 13: beneficiaries with birth dates between the 1st and 10th of the month
Third Wednesday, August 20: beneficiaries with birth dates between the 1st and 20th of the month
Fourth Wednesday, August 27: beneficiaries with birth dates between the 21st and 31st of the month
Beneficiaries are always advised to stay up-to-date with information published by official government sources. In the event of any last-minute changes, they will always be informed.
